I received this Bosch 3/8 inch cobalt drill bit yesterday morning and drilled the ten holes through a i/2 inch thick, 6 foot long flat steel bar in about 45 minutes yesterday afternoon. Bar is for re-enforcing a wood roof support beam on a small porch project (bolted to the side of the wood beam). Most of my time was spent re- positioning the bar for each subsequent hole, and the actual drilling time for each hole was about one minute. I was using a small Rockwell drill press that I bought from Amazon last spring which now sells for about $180.00. I chose this particular drill bit because the 3 small flats on the shank will tend to prevent any slippage of the bit in the chuck jaws, and there was no slippage. I ran the drill at 600 rpm and squirted a small amount of black cutting oil on the bit several times as I was drilling each hole. The main thing is: Keep the bit cutting and back it out several times to let it cool and dump the shavings. The drill bit is as good as new still. That’s why I gave it 5 stars.

    Good price, good delivery.

what can you say…they are drill bits. Haven’t had them long enough to give a thorough review but they seem to be a good bargain.

Used for drilling pilot holes in wood studs through Sheetrock and larger holes through Sheetrock and metal studs. This set has lasted longer than others and included all the right sizes.

These bits are the harder, more brittle cobalt so they cut steel much better than HSS (High Speed Steel) bits do, however, they are more brittle so they can be easier to break if subjected to high deflection. Not as brittle as solid carbide (not as tough as carbide either) but still have to be a little more careful when using to avoid side loading the bit.

Used them but with no oil and they worked fine. Added a bit of oil and even had sone stress on them (thought it would snap) but worked great for me. Time will tell how long they last.

I’m using these to drill through brass and nickle rifle casings, and they go through them like butter! I was really surprised at how well they went through the nickle, since I was having no luck with titanium drill bits on those. I’m mostly making a 1/16″ pilot hole with the same bits because they are easier to hold onto that way, but I’ve used them on their own and they are doing a fantastic job!Highly recommended, and I’ll buy them again if these ever wear out!

Superior in every way that a product can be and this truly is a rare find. I didn’t write my review until I had a lot of time and experience with the drill bits. I’ve used all of them extensively now and I can without a doubt that Bosch has a winner on their hands here. I bought several competitors nearly identical in price, number of bits, claims by the companies and these stand out.I didn’t waste any time getting down to brass tacks. I bustd out the super heavy duty spring steel I had forged in the U. S. back in the 1970’s. I got the steel by salvaging old bed frames from my family members over the years and this stuff is TOUGH.We’ve been doing a lot of moving people around lately so furniture movers that can survive moving heavy loads are so in demand. The ones for sale nowadays get destroyed very easily if not properly reinforced. Thus the need to cut some holes in some strong steel. If you are going to attempt to do this with a garbage big box stores brand you had better be prepared to dull the crap out of your bits, snap some and destroy the motors of your cordless drills. I’ve done this the wrong way long enough to know what works and what does not.Get yourself a center punch tap worth a damn to make a starter divot so the bits won’t skate across the steel, I like Starrett branded taps… .. Use a small bit to drill a pilot hole… Then switch to the size bit you need. USE cutting oil on the bits, it matters and greatly extends the life of your bits. Clean them when done and if you follow these tips and use these Bosch bits, there isn’t much you won’t be able to drill through with even a middle of the road cordless drill…-Tony Cusimano

Bosch quality comes thru every time. Bought these to use in a drill press to remove broken bolts in a Mercury outboard, worked flawlessly.

  10. Andrea

Was drilling 304 SS. Regular Titanium bits couldn’t do the job. These bits, with some oil, cut through very quickly. Good value, too soon to rate longevity.
